First Machinima movie on the IMDB

Posted by Peter Rasmussen on July 23, 2007

IMDB

Stolen Life is the first machinima movie to make it onto the Internet Movie database. In these days of DV video and YouTube it has become much harder to get a movie listed on IMDB. I think it’s a good sign for machinima.

Sam Sloan review’s stolen Life in the latest Slice of SciFi podcast No. 117. He’s a bit tough on machinima but really likes the movie.

“Jones and Black are perfect playing off one another’s characters. I highly recommend the DVD to everyone who loves sci-fi and future Noir.”

Interactive Story Telling

Posted by Peter Rasmussen on July 8, 2007

I was fascinated to read a post by “3dfilmmaker” at 3dFilmMaker.com
http://www.3dfilmmaker.com/
He talks about the exciting new possibilities of “Interactive story telling” via the medium of Machinima. As 3DFM says the concept of interactive story itself is not new. You only have to visit
The Just Adventure web site
http://www.justadventure.com/
To see how dedicated the adventure game audience is.

I’m very excited to here interactive story telling is on it’s way back. At the outset I was not as big a fan of shooters as I was of story games. One of the most outstanding examples of “Interactive Movies” is the Tex Murphy series of games starring Chris Jones. He coined the phrase. Chris was also Co-author of the series. The Tex Murphy series was a leader in the field. It combined the ability to investigate the scene in three-dimensional space with the latest at that time in multimedia interaction and great science fiction detective stories.

Podcast Special on Machinima Feature Film

Posted by Peter Rasmussen on July 3, 2007

The Scapecast Podcast has offered to do a show on stolen Life.

Scapecast is a podcast dedicated to the legendary sci-fi Farscape series starring Claudia Black and Ben Browder. They do discussions and analysis on episodes and follow cast and crew’s careers on through other projects.

Scapecast did an interview with the director of “Stolen Life” Jackie Turnure last year at DragonCon. The feedback was so good they are devoting episode 34 to Stolen Life and Claudia’s character, Aeryn Sun. The tentative release date for that ep is 7/20.

The Stolen Life DVD will be offered as a prize. There will be a puzzle to solve. The question is “How many characters are there on the cover of the DVD”. It’s not straightforward. There is a clue in the trailer. The cover is the same as the poster. You can find the trailer and a large version of the poster on the stolen life web site.

stolen Life Trailer on YouTube

Posted by Peter Rasmussen on July 2, 2007

We’ve just put the stolen Life Trailer up on YouTube. If you search for “Robot” the first clip has 8,098,224 views. I had a look. At first it just looks like some fairly average robot dancing. One kid has a try. He’s okay. Another kid buts in. They clear off. The next kid gets up. He moves his hands a bit. And then he takes off! The Stolen Life trailer only has to get 8,098,224 + 1 views to get a head of it.

Stolen Life Video Interview

Posted by Peter Rasmussen on June 14, 2007

Jackie Turnure and I did another video interview today for a vodcast for a game web site. We talk about the making of stolen Life and the future of machinima. I’ll post a link when it’s up. It’s almost getting easy. To be conscious enough of how it’s going down to make sure that what you are giving them fits there kind of show but relaxed enough that it is genuinely spontaneous.

To help put the word out about the recent release of the Stolen Life DVD there are a number of reviews coming up on a wide range of web sites who I expect will give their own particular take on it.
